Numerourous wind companies are circulating througout the Township and area. Council suggests that the public become informed regarding Wind Power and contact a solicitor before signing any documents. The Federation of Agriculture's website, www.ofa.on.ca has some information posted - "Considerations for Farmers Thinking about Wind Power Leases" and "Ontario Landowner's Guide to Wind Energy".

HYDRO ONE
BRUCE TO MILTON TRANSMISSION REINFORCEMENT PROJECT

Hydro One Networks plans to expand the existing transmission system from Bruce County to the Town of Milton to accommodate 3,000 megawatts of emission free power coming online by 2011.

TOWNSHIP OF EAST GARAFRAXA is proud to present the Annual Report for the MARSVILLE WATER SYSTEM for 2009. This report summarizes the source of your water supply, the treatment process and the results for hundreds of parameters tested during the quarter including any "Adverse Water Notifications" issued during the reporting period.

Eligibility for Grants to Protect Drinking Water Sources

If your property is close to the municipal drinking water supply for Marsville, you may qualify for grants of up to 100% to help pay for projects that protect water quality. Projects such as well decommissioning and upgrading, septic inspections, replacements and upgrades, and erosion protection measures. MUNICIPAL PROPERTY ASSESSEMENT CORPORATION

Assessment Notices: Notices have been sent by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) regarding the assessed value of your property.

MPAC are providing an "Outreach Program"and a representative of MPAC will be available at the Town of Orangeville Municipal Office every other week (March 4, 18, 2009 etc.)

This value will be used by the municipality when calculating your property taxes. If you have questions regarding your assessment call the toll free number 1 866 296 6722 to verify details. You may also access information through "AboutMyProperty" on their web site, www.mpac.ca. If you believe your assessment is incorrect, MPAC will be pleased to further review your assessment through a Request for Reconsideration. There is no fee for a RfR and your request may be made any time before December 31 of the current taxation year. Forms are available from www.mpac.ca or the Municipal Office.

Another option is to file a formal appeal with the Assessment Review Board (AFB) by the deadline noted on your Property Assessment Notice. A $50.00 filing fee is required for each roll number for residential, farm, managed forest and conservation land properties. For Multi-Residential. commercial, industrial and other properties a $125.00 filing fee is required.

The Accessibility Standards for Customer Service (Ontario Regulation 429/07) came into force on January 1, 2008.  As public sector organizations, the Township of East Garafraxa must comply with the regulation by January 1, 2010.

Residential Development Charge imposed under By-Law 30-2009, is $8.994.48
Development Charge per Wind Turbine imposed under By-Law 30-2009 is $6,384.47

West Nile Virus Alert - West Nile Virus is transmitted to humans and animals by the bite of an infected mosquito. Protect yourself and your family by limiting time outdoors during dawn and dusk; wear loose, long-sleeved tops and long pants, socks and shoes when outdoors at high activity times; use insect repellent containing DEET; eliminate areas of standing water, dense brush, old tires. Healthy Wetlands for the Upper Grand - Wetlands are areas that are permanently or seasonally flooded. They are important places for wildlife but are also important to people, especially in agricultural areas. Program can provide up to 100% of funding for landowners in the Upper Grand Watershed for demonstration projects that restore or enhance wetland and associated upland habitat. Examples of eligible demonstrations include wetland restoration, livestock exclusion fencing. Non-permanent wetlands are important! FIRE, POLICE & AMBULANCE remind residents that it is mandatory to have your six digit Emergency Number displayed appropriately at your property. Subdivisions have been assigned a house number which is to be posted. Do not use your lot number. Houses not posted correctly may result in delays in Emergency vehicles finding your property.

  • The Ontario Fire Code states that every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm and CO detector on every storey and outside all sleeping areas. It is the owner's responsibility to ensure these are installed and maintained in working order.
  • A barn fire is a farmer’s worst nightmare and brings with it significant emotional and economic impact to a farming community. Prevent fires on your farm by starting with a fire plan - enforce a no smoking policy in any barn or farm buildings. Efforts are always underway to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of services by the Township of East Garafraxa and its local boards, and thus far no barriers have been identified that would hinder efforts to achieve these improvements.

 

TOWNSHIP TREE PROGRAM

Tthe Township, in conjunction with the MNR Land Stewardship Network, be offering a tree program for distribution in the Spring. The program offers both tree and shrub species at a subsidized cost to the residents. The seedlings and shrubs are suited for general reforestation and wildlife habitat.In order to offer the trees at reduced costs, the municipality orders the trees in the Fall, in co-operation with several area municipalities, for distribution to residents in the Spring. The Land Stewardship Network offers technical information and volunteers for distribution, as well as subsidizing the cost of the program.
